Balancing Act

timeclockLet me start by saying, It will be 5 years that my husband and I have been married this June.  I have been a Mom for 3.5 years.  Now with that said, When do I figure out how to “balance” these two wonderful positions.  I am a housewife, SAHM, domestic engineer, whatever you want to call it, but this job has No Vacation time, No Sick Leave, and I dont get to leave after a shift!  When I worked, I could call in sick, I got to go in at 8am and leave at 5pm and not even think about the place until the next work day.   I want you to know I LOVE being a Wife, and a Mom!  But let me tell ya, I really miss being able to just go lie down when I get tired.  Or Sleep in and wake up on my own.  These are things you don’t really think about when the BABY BUG bites.  My oldest, Emma, comes into our bedroom and wakes me up usually between 7:30 and 9 (I prefer closer to 9), and sometimes she just climbs into the bed with us, but Most times she comes in like her pants are on fire, “MOMMY MOMMY, I need to POTTY!” Now there is just no time for me to rub my eyes, or put my glasses on, or even stretch.  She wants me to come with her RIGHT NOW!  She does this with such gusto that you are sure your next move should be to go outside to wait for the fire department. My poor Husband, he work until 12 midnight, so he is very much the night owl.  I try to stay on his schedule but our girls have another plan altogether for me.  Geoff and I only get a couple of hours alone and that is usually when he gets home.  And by this point I have been up close to 18 hours straight sometimes.  He tells me to just go on to bed, but Emma has come accustom to the late hours we keep and it is hard to get this child in bed before 10, let alone asleep before 11.  Gracie, on the other hand, she is usually in bed by 9:30 at the latest.  She also still takes 2 naps most days, so if I could just get them both to take a nap at the same time, maybe I could get a snooze in!  NAWW! That RARELY happens.  I love my kids and I know they will only be little for a short time, but why can’t I get a clone or a robot of me that I could just let loose when I need a break???? How did June Cleaver manage this, I am sure she had a body double, and she just went in the backyard and put her feet up and sipped some lemonade and ate her BonBons.  I mean even Mrs. Brady had ALICE!

Princess for a day….or days that is!

Princess Emma! As you know, I am a Mom.  Emma is our resident princess, everything is Disney Princess.  She has the pillow, the blanket, bath towel, dresses, shoes, shirts, books, movies……you see where I am going with this.   Emma has an obsession, EVERDAY, at some point, she takes off all her clothes except for her undies and goes to find her princess dress, she puts this on and her black dress shoes (aka glass slippers) and a beaded necklace or 2 or 3, however many she can find at the time.   Then she finds a headband, (since her sister broke her TIARA).  Now mind you it is winter and this child is in a sleeveless little ballerina dress, NO socks.  She walks around asking Daddy and I to DANCE with her, and tells her sister to “FOLLOW me I am the Princess!”  Now, Let me describe this little dress, it came in a Disney Princess Easter Basket last year.  This dress has straps that have been graciously re-sewed more than once by her Grandma.  and it has a “tutu” and she is getting much too tall for this outfit.  And the Princess decal is fading and flaking off with each trip through the washer.  I never was much of the Princess type growing up, so this is quite comical to me.  I liked to play in the dirt and was dirty most of my toddler life!  Emma is a wonderful princess, she should be she does this EVERYDAY!  God Love her.   Geoff and I have one little problem with this costume, and that is when she has her “glass slippers” on she inevitably ends up stepping on our toes and let me tell you, She may as well have Baseball Cleats on, ’cause it HURTS!  And, when she does this she will say “OH, SORRY! ” and run about her royal duties. I know I have many, many years of princess adventures ahead of me, BUT I do believe I will be investing in some BALLET SLIPPERS or maybe some STEEL TOED BOOTS!

Well here I am……

Writing a BLOG!  I said I wouldn’t do it, but the temptation is just too great.  All my friends are doing it so I should too!  Even my dear Hubby told me the other day, “You should write a blog.”  and to my surprise he was serious.  I don’t know that you will find any life altering information on here, but maybe I will be able to at least make you smile or even get ya to laugh a little, and if this does happen my mission will be accomplished. As a married mother of two, My life is never boring.  Right now my entire family (except me of course) has a nasty cold.  My days have been filled with cough syrup and tissues for the last week.  Not to mention, they are all CRANKY!  Things are looking up though, unless of course I end up with this CRUD, who is gonna wipe my nose???   Let me tell ya, have you ever tried to clean a 1 year old’s crusty nose??? It is not fun, Gracie just does not like me very much when she wakes up, considering I go after her with a wet wipe and try to get those crusty off her poor little nose.  Then she REALLY dislikes me when I try to put saline drops in her nose.  Now mind you this child has never had a full blown cold before, so she is not at all happy about this.  Now when it comes to my 3 year old, Emma, she is a whole other story.  This child has allergies, and when she needs to blow her nose she just BLOWS no need to wait for us to get her a tissue.  So needless to say, it is good she knows how to blow but we are still pleading with her to wait for a tissue.  This is the boring account of my experience being a mom.
